Subject: Subscriptions for 2022

Dear THH Partner,

Firstly, we would like to sincerely THANK YOU for your support and ready adoption of The Homeschool Hub platform. Your support has been instrumental in getting us to where we are today, with a modern design and what we believe is a hugely valuable platform for South Africa’s homeschool community.

We are nearing the end of our first year, and looking at what needs to be accomplished in Year 2. The following is an outline of what we are looking to do, as well as a short summary of what happened in Year 1.

But first, a brief introduction for those would like more background on who we are and what we stand for as The Homeschool Hub:

About THH

This whole new platform is primarily the combined efforts of a husband-and-wife team: Caleb & Elbie Koenig. Caleb runs a small creative agency called Calbie Creative, which has given us an advantage regarding the design and building of the platform itself. Caleb is also responsible for designing the virtual booths each provider gets when they sign up for THH. Elbie works full time teaching piano and currently has 30 active students. Elbie focuses on admin duties and was instrumental in speaking to all providers just prior to launching THH in September of 2020. She is a homeschool Mom herself and is currently teaching her own children at home.

The Homeschool Hub is intended to be 100% unbiased in its approach and presentation. Our goal is to provide the general homeschool community in South Africa with a modern, easy to use platform on which they can:

  1. Easily find out what curriculum options are available to them, living in SA
  2. Navigate the best approach for their family’s needs if they’re just starting out, or to be able to find information on what lies ahead in the High School years if they’re starting with older children (as well as resources available to help them in those crucial years)
  3. Learn about the legalities and their rights as home educators, as well as have easy access to get in touch with groups like The Pestalozzi Trust as well as The Department of Basic Education
  4. Contribute to and learn from the greater community by sharing their own stories, insights and experiences and reading the stories and insights of others

As such we believe we truly have something exceptionally unique and useful to homeschoolers and curriculum/resource providers in South Africa that will only become more and more valuable with time.

YEAR 1
Sept 2020-Sept 2021: The Building Phase

Summary

  • The Homeschool Hub was built, then launched to the public in September 2020.
  • Providers were contacted, and during the course of the year booths were custom-built for each provider and then placed in our Curricula Directory.
  • The original homepage was changed to feature the Curricula Directory for visitors straight-away, as we felt this gave our providers the best chance of getting the traffic they needed.
  • We marketed the platform on Facebook, both through organic posts we shared as well as paid advertising with Facebook Ads. With a very limited budget in our first year, we did not push paid advertising to the extent that we will be looking to do in Year 2.
  • We continued to add to the website, eventually creating what is now The Journey page, which we intend to use as a tool to help parents decipher the best route for their personal homeschool journey by using leading questions to guide them to their most likely solution - whether that be a certain category of providers, a tutor or a learning centre.

Year 2
Sept 2021-Dec 2022: The Marketing Phase

The Plan

From September 2021, our new year begins for The Homeschool Hub. We will be making a concerted effort to more aggressively MARKET the platform as the premier platform for homeschoolers to find what they need and gain inspiration for their homeschool journey.

  1. We will both market to the general public nationally to raise awareness of the platform, as well as encourage homeschoolers to contribute by writing/recording content for the site that would help others.
  2. We will be looking to make a massive impact with the platform this year, and our goal is to make it the go-to place for information and inspiration for SA’s thriving (and growing) homeschool community, just as its name suggests.
  3. To this end, we have engaged with a local marketing agency called Brands & People to assist us in drafting a marketing plan and to help us with its implementation, leveraging their excellent and widespread relationships in various media industries. The number of people we are looking to reach will number almost 1 million for the year and we plan to put our marketing budget towards Google and Facebook ads, TV and national radio ad space, more advanced Search Engine Optimization and more to reach this expanded audience. The bulk of our efforts will be placed in the months during "peak homeschool season", with the rest spread more conservatively throughout the rest of 2022.
  4. On top of marketing, we will continue to develop the website and add fresh features and pages that will further benefit our users, while keeping a watchful eye on its upkeep and rooting out any issues/bugs that surface over time.

New Pricing Packages for 2022

Below you will find a short list of packages we have put together, with the additional marketing benefits that go with each.

Please note that in order to ensure we are able to afford the pricier marketing elements (like radio and TV), we will need a minimum Rand value from our subscriptions. In the interest of complete transparency, as we realize we are dealing with your money as a provider, we will keep book of all income and expenses and will be willing to share this information with any of our partners upon their request. Simply email us at info@thehomeschoolhub.co.za with any questions regarding this plan.

The deadline for all subscriptions to be confirmed and paid is 15 October 2021, which will give us enough time to set our marketing drive in motion starting from November 2021.

Summary & Closing

We are very excited about what the future holds for homeschoolers in South Africa. We are seeing a record rise in people interested in homeschooling, and we are seeing an interest in people actually pursuing homeschooling as both a temporary solution and a lifestyle choice.

Without our partners - the providers - this platform would have much less impact. But with each one contributing, we will work to build an online presnce that is of the utmost usefulness to anyone within the ever-growing homeschool circle in South Africa.

For any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Caleb or Elbie using the contact details below; we'll be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

All the very best,

Caleb & Elbie Koenig
